Carnoustie Rugby Club are delighted to confirm that David Campese aka “Campo” is coming to celebrate 40 years of Carnoustie Rugby Club on the 16th, 17th and 18th of June.
Campo was Bill McLarens favourite rugby player primarily due to his ability to light up games with his pace and running lines.
Blessed with fast feet and tremendous skills to beat opponents inside and out, often more than once in the same move. Campo is for many the greatest player winning 101 caps in total. He will be the first to acknowledge that he made mistakes and attracted controversy but this has just added to the folklore of his genius.
He was a member of the famous Aussie touring side that won the 1984 grand slam beating all the home nations – a feet that has never been repeated. Bill McLaren said during the Scotland test on that tour that “he brought the Murrayfield crowd to its feet with a vintage performance culminating in a typical gorgeous try!”
He was the players of the tournament in 1991 when Australia won the Rugby World Cup, scoring 6 tries! Campo has never been shy in coming forward and has often been outspoken and we’re hopeing for a flavour of that over our weekend of rugby celebration.
Campo will be joining us for our dinner fundraiser on the Friday, will be at our beach rugby tournament on the Saturday and will be at the clubs end of year presentation on the 18th June.
